Consultation & Support
Helping you help your loved one
Every child is different, and strategies that help one child may not be effective for another. At Trio Psychological Consultancy Services Ltd., we work with parents and caregivers who are looking for fresh perspectives, practical strategies, and tailored support to help their children navigate their individual and unique challenges.
We offer consultation services for parents and caregivers who would benefit from guidance and personalized recommendations on how to best support the child in their care.
What to Expect?
A collaborative, reflective session designed to help you better understand and support the child or youth in your care. Whether you are facing behavioural concerns, emotional difficulties, developmental questions, or broader pressures across settings such as school, home, or periods of transition, these sessions are meant to offer clarity and understanding, not criticism.
This support is tailored specifically for parents and caregivers. It provides practical, professional guidance grounded in psychology and delivered with empathy, respect, and no judgment.
Who is this for?
Parents or caregivers who feel overwhelmed or uncertain about how best to support a child in their care, including foster or kinship arrangements. Caregivers who are navigating complex relational or developmental needs. Parents or caregivers seeking guidance in understanding and working within systems that affect their child, such as school.
You do not need to be in crisis to seek support. These sessions are for anyone who wants to be more confident and effective in supporting the child in their life.
How are these sessions structured?
Parents/caregivers can choose the session length that best fits their needs (i.e., a standard session is scheduled for 50-minutes). Shorter sessions (i.e., 30-minutes) may be suitable for brief updates or check-ins, while longer sessions allow for more in-depth discussion or planning. If you're unsure which option is right for you, Dr. Frost can help guide this decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
How would I described my approach in therapy with clients?
My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) while integrating trauma-informed, interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, and multicultural-relational approaches, making it well-suited to the unique experiences and developmental needs of clients. My work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds has taught me to build a solid therapeutic alliance and create a supportive environment to promote growth and healing. I am always grateful to be a small part of that journey.
How often will we meet?
For therapy, many clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum, and then adjust to biweekly or monthly as progress is made. We’ll collaborate to find a rhythm that works best for you.
* EAP clients have their own allotted number of sessions that are covered by their employer.
Do I work with children, teens, adults or couples?
I currently see teens and adults for individual therapy. I work with children and adults for psychological and psychoeducational assessments (6 years and older). At times, depending on the presenting concern, consultation with close family or friends might be necessary as part of treatment, however, this will first be discussed with the primary client before proceeding. I do not currently offer couples or family therapy, however, I am happy to refer you to a trusted colleague to help meet your needs.
Are psychological services covered under insurance?
Most local insurance companies offer coverage for psychological therapy services, with varying coverage amounts. Please contact your specific insurer for coverage details or review your respective policy documents. Once covered, services are paid up-front and clients can bring claim forms at the time of services to be completed and submit to their insurer.
How do I pay for services?
Payments can be made by cash or bank transfer, at the time of service.
What is your practice's cancellation policy?
Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice incur the full session fee. Emergencies and unforeseen circumstances are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How long does therapy take?
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience as each person brings their unique concerns therefore, the duration varies based on individual needs. Some clients benefit from 8-10 sessions, while others may require longer-term support. We'll collaboratively discuss recommendations at your initial assessment to do what is feasible for all parties involved.
Is everything shared confidential?
Absolutely, yes! Your privacy is very important. All information shared, whether you share it via the intake forms and/or in session, is kept private and confidential. Your information is solely accessible by Dr. Frost.
* The only exceptions are very rare situations required by law, such as safety concerns for yourself or others, including to minors and elderly individuals. I’ll explain these in more detail during our first session.
Is the platform for virtual appointment secure?
I use a HIPAA compliant Zoom account that is secured for meetings with encryptions and passcodes. No appointment is recorded and no protected health information is stored on the platform directly.
What do I need to bring to my first session?
Just yourself. If you’d like, you can write down a few thoughts about what you’re hoping to work on, but it’s not required.
What if the fees for services are out of reach?
I offer a limited number of reduced-fee slots for individual therapy. If you are interested in exploring a reduced rate, please mention it before your first session. When available, these lower-cost options are offered for a limited number of sessions.
If a reduced-fee spot is not currently open, you may choose to be placed on a waitlist. Additional options such as shorter or less frequent sessions may also be considered, depending on your clinical needs. In some cases, I may recommend a referral to another provider whose services better fit your budget.
What is a psychological assessment?
Psychological assessments are essential tools for diagnosing mental health conditions, cognitive impairments, and learning challenges, offering clarity that can significantly improve quality of life. It is a structured assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist to identify conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, or learning disabilities. It typically involves:
  • Clinical Interviews: Gathering detailed personal history and symptoms.
  • Standardized Testing: Using validated tools to assess cognitive abilities, emotional health, or specific diagnoses.
  • Behavioral Observations: Evaluating functioning in real-world contexts.
  • Comprehensive Report: Summarizing findings, diagnoses, and recommendations.
These assessments inform treatment plans, secure accommodations (e.g., at school or work), inform legal proceedings, or provide deeper self-insight.
What does "licensed clinical psychologist" actually mean?
A Licensed Psychologist is a type of mental health professional who has completed a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical, counselling, or school psychology, extensive supervised clinical training (3000+ hours in clinical practica, 2000 hours during internship, and 2000 hours during postdoctoral fellowship), has passed relevant state/provincial law and ethics exams, and has passed the national licensing exam (EPPP). This licensure means the psychologist is legally recognized by the jurisdiction, and the title of 'psychologist' is protected under law, to provide psychological assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapy.
Psychologists are trained to help people understand and manage emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges using scientifically supported approaches. They adhere to strict ethical standards and maintain ongoing education to ensure the highest level of care.

Trinidad & Tobago does not currently have a regulatory board to govern the field of psychology nor does it have a legal standard for training/supervision that practitioners of psychological services must adhere to.
Simply being a member of an association (e.g., TTAP) does not regulate professional competence nor ethical and legal conduct of the practitioner. I encourage everyone who is seeking psychological support in T&T to advocate for high quality care and ethical standards provided by their therapist. The public is encouraged to ask for details on the provider's training and education before receiving support (it is your right!).
Having a doctorate does not automatically mean the practitioner is qualified and trained in psychology at the doctoral level. Most providers of psychological services in T&T are credentialed at the master's level to provider mental health services.
My license is governed and regulated by the State of Colorado, in the United States.
What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists and psychologists are both professionals who specialize in the field of mental health, but they differ in terms of education, training, and practice (Sievert, 2023; UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine).
  • Psychologists are professionals who have advanced degrees in psychology. They are trained to evaluate, diagnose and treat mental health disorders through various forms of therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, psychoanalytic therapy, and dialectal behavior therapy. Psychologists can also administer various psychological assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, and psychological functioning concerns.
  • Psychologists do not prescribe medications, but they often work closely with psychiatrists and other medical professionals to provide comprehensive care for their clients. In some jurisdictions a psychologist has prescriptive authority which requires additional education and training.
  • Becoming a psychologist, which is a protected title in many jurisdictions, typically involving the completion of a doctoral degree in psychology (a Ph.D or Psy.D), which can take 4-7 years of postgraduate study plus another 1-2 years of clinical training. This is then followed by taking board exams to establish licensure. It is important to note, that in some jurisdictions, such as Trinidad & Tobago, clinicians possessing a minimum of a Master's degree can provide some psychological services, often referred to as counsellors, psychotherapists, marriage and family therapists, or social workers.
On the other hand...
  • Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose and treat mental health disorders through a combination of therapy, medication, and other medical interventions.
  • They have the authority to prescribe medications and perform medical procedures related to mental health.
  • They must complete both medical school (to earn an MD/MBBS/DO) as well as a residency program in psychiatry. So it typically takes 8-10 years of postgraduate study to become a psychiatrist.
What is the difference between a Psychologist and a life coach?
A psychologist is a licensed mental health professional with an accredited graduate degree, extensive supervised clinical training, and legally regulated credentials. Psychologists use evidence-based, scientifically validated methods to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health concerns. Their work is guided by professional ethics codes, licensing boards, and continuing-education requirements to ensure safe, effective, and accountable care.
A life coach, by contrast, is not a regulated profession. Anyone can call themselves a life coach, regardless of education or training. While some coaches pursue certification programs, these are not governed by state or national licensing bodies, and their methods vary widely. Life coaching typically focuses on motivation, goal-setting, and general personal development, but coaches are not trained or qualified to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and their approaches are not required to be supported by scientific research.
